David Belisle's Full Little League World Series Ending Motivational and Inspirational Speech
After his Rhode Island team, Cumberland American, was eliminated from the Little League World Series Monday night, Belisle delivered a welcome dose of perspective and encouragement to his teary-eyed troops in an impassioned postgame speech.
Fallball is now Fall Clinics - Sept. 2014
Due to dwindling interest, we will not be hosting a Fall Ball program this year.
However, we WILL be hosting clinics for ALL players (including our graduates)
who played Majors BB in 2014 and all those who wish to play Majors BB in 2015.
The clinics will be twice per week but the days and times will be changing to help accommodate other sports' conflicts.
The plan is for half the time to be on skill development and half on an intra-squad game.
The cost is ONLY $35 which is half of Fall Ball in the past and economical for those who may only be able to attend half the sessions due to other commitments.

Layritz Hosting Softball Tournament for Minor and Majors - June 22-26th
Congratulations to the Beacon Hill Minor Softball Tournament Team who won Gold at the 9-10 Minor Softball District Championships.
Layritz won Silver and Hampton won Bronze.
All the girls displayed great sportsmanship and represented their home parks well. It was a fun tournament and we look forward to seeing all the girls next season!
Also, the Major Girls Softball All-Stars from Layritz and Beacon Hill participated in the inaugural Bea-Ritz Softball Challenge. The goal of this event was to emphasize the Little League values of character, courage and loyalty and to ensure that the girls had a positive end of season event. The idea of MVP was introduced with coaches taking a minute to address the other team and share what they saw in terms of outstanding effort, sportsmanship and/or achievement. Despite the scores tallied both teams played exceptionally well and the games and skills were much closer than the scores reveal. Players and coaches all represented their home parks well and exemplified the values of good sportsmanship, discipline, fairplay, teamwork and most importantly, fun! We look forward to a rematch in 2015 and an increase in the number of teams participating.

Highlights - Evan Carson's Grand Slam over the left field fence during the 2nd inning on Diamond 2 (Game #7 on the schedule),
- The boys have made it to the playoff round, thanks to two standup triples by Alex Hawey! This first cleared the bases and gave them a great lead.
- The playoff round started with the boys having a 6 to 1 lead after only two innings. They just couldn't hold onto against the #1 Round-Robin position Beacon Hill team, that just never gave into the though of losing.

New Foods at the Concession! Yummmmmmmm
The rumor is deliciously true! Layritz is introducing Pancake Saturdays.
Beginning this Saturday April 26thfrom 9am until 11am and every Saturday until the end of the season, our dedicated Concession Director, Ian Hawey, will be flipping pancakes for two hours.
The menu will be limited to pancakes, coffee and hot chocolate (of course candy juice and pop will also be available) until 11am when the rest of the kitchen staff arrives for their weekend shifts. For $2.50 you'll get your plate of four fresh pancakes. Pending popularity and success, extra food items may be added in the coming weeks.
If there are any volunteer Blast Ball parents that have not worked the concession before, this could be an easy intro to the activities of the concession. Drop Ian an email at concession@layritz.ca if would like to help out. He only needs a couple of volunteers weekly to help take money, serve drinks, and hand out utensils.
But that's not all... Starting Friday April 25th, by popular request..... POUTINE will also be servered on a trial basis. If you were one of the requestors, give it a try and pass on the word.

(This list could go on for miles as you can well see!)

IMPORTANT RULE CHANGES REGARDING ELIGIBILITY TO REGISTER FOR 2014 SEASON
In an effort to accommodate Little Leaguers to play with their classmates, and ease the burden on parents and guardians, Little League has amended its residency requirements to allow children to play in the local league whose boundaries where they attend school is located.

Cordova Bay Elementary

Glanford Middle

"Little League is always looking for more ways to give all children the opportunity to have the best Little League experience possible," said Patrick Wilson, Little League Senior Vice President of Operations and Program Development. "This new rule will provide more flexibility for families to participate in the leagues that best fits their children."
The required form is here: http://www.littleleague.org/Assets/forms_pubs/school-enrollment-form.pdf and will need to be filled out before registration (requires the signature of a school administrator, principal, or vice-principal) and brought to the Layritz clubhouse during registration.
Also, because of an agreement with other parks, any softball players in Central and North Saanich areas can also register at Layritz Little League in our softball programs.
