Winter Clinics - Starting in Early January!

More info coming shortly!

Changes to Age Brackets

Please notice the changes to the age brackets for all our divisions (Coming soon)...
Our directors have collectively agreed that these changes best suit not only player developoment and evenness across divisions, but give the best (and safest) on-field experience to the children enjoying and learning the great game of baseball and softball.

New Board for the 2016 Season

At the November AGM a new board was voted in by those attending the AGM (thank you for those who attended).  Please check out the /AboutUs tab to see and be able to contact the new board members.

A huge thank you to those volunteers who give so much time to the park to make it the great program it is for our kids and our community.  We say farewell to a few folks and welcome some new-comers.

NOTE: We're still gathering the contact information, so the table (and the forwarded email addresses) may not be up to date just yet.
When this NOTICE is gone, it will be updated (also note the LAST UPDATED footer date).

Happy Thanksgiving!
Layritz wishes all their families a
pleasant and fruitful Thanksgiving!

AGM - Sunday, November 8th, 7-8:30pm in the Arbutus Room at Commonwealth Place

The Layritz Little League is holding their Annual General Meeting on Sunday, November 8th, at 7-8:30pm in the Arbutus Room of Commonwealth Place (upstairs, left of main entrance doors) - Saanich Commonwealth Place - 4636 Elk Lake Drive

Please make time in your schedules to attend, as this affects our ability to qualify for the Provincial Gaming grants that help fund our programs and keeps all our costs down.  Considering the countless hours our Board and Coaches give this program, please give this important one hour (or slightly more) of your time to help everyone involved.

Have a read of a letter (PDF Version) (Word-Doc Version) to the Membership from our President Jenna Hiser.

Fall Baseball/Clinics - Starting Sep 2nd (to Oct 28)

The clinic dates for the 2015 fall baseball program have been finalized. Clinics will alternate between Monday and Wednesday evenings on D3 (Majors diamond) from 6:00pm-8:00pm (except for the first week September 2 & 4).  This will be a nine week program and we are organizing and coordinating exhibition games for majors players (ages 10-12) which will be determined by the end of next week.  These games will be against both Beacon Hill and Lakehill baseball programs. These games will be on Friday evenings and times will be announced once these are finalized.  The first of these games is set for Friday September 11th vs. Beacon Hill (6:00pm) and we will determine a Layritz lineup once we have confirmation of who can play.

Below is the list of the minors and majors clinics (all on D3) for this fall.

Week Minors Clinics  Majors Clinics Comment
1 Wed Sep 02 Fri Sep 04 (please note these dates are just for week #1)
2 Wed Sep 09 Mon Sep 07 (Exhibition game vs. Beacon Hill - Sep. 11th)
3 Mon Sep 14 Wed Sep 16
4 Wed Sep 23 Mon Sep 21
5 Mon Sep 28 Wed Sep 30
6 Wed Oct 07 Mon Oct 05
7 Mon Oct 12 Wed Oct 14
8 Wed Oct 21 Mon Oct 19
9 Mon Oct 26 Wed Oct 28

Now we fully realize that hockey, soccer, and other organized sports may conflict so this is the reason we alternated the Monday's and Wednesday's clinic sessions for the minors and majors aged players in hopes that some of the clinics will be easy and conflict free to attend.

We sincerely hope you can make it out to as many as you can.  These dates will be posted to the Layritz website by the weekend.

The final piece of business is there is payment required. For 2015 the fall baseball program fee is $45.00.  Long sleeve microfibre shirts will be provided and we will have sample sizes to try on the first week of clinic sessions.  These fees will also be used to pay for the umpires when Layritz hosts Friday games at our park.  Please bring a cheque - payable to Layritz Little League or cash to next weeks first clinic.  Tax receipts will be forwarded to you the following week.

All players will be asked to come to next weeks minor or majors clinic and try on a sized shirt and bring with them their top three shirt numbers choices.  These shirts will double as the Layritz team shirts when we play games on the Fridays.  For those who are chosen to play on Sept. 11th we need this for a quick week turnaround and have the shirts ready for this game.

If you have any questions please forward them to me and someone will be sending out information to the families of the rookie minor families shortly to inform them of the minors clinics for the fall as well.

Troy Dunning - vpbaseball@layritz.ca / VP - Baseball Layritz/Majors Divisional Director / Layritz Little League

Layritz fall baseball clinics are open to all returning 2015 players, plus anyone who is wanting to come out and give baseball a try.
Minors ages (7-9).  Majors ages (10-12)
$45.00 fee (cash or cheque – payable to Layritz Little League).

The Toronto Blue Jays have informed the Victoria HarbourCats that former MLB all-star outfielder Lloyd Moseby will be in Victoria for the Honda Super Camp, a youth instructional clinic, on July 12-13.

Moseby joins Roberto Alomar, Tanyon Sturtze, Brian McRae, Homer Bush and Devon White on the list of coaches for this camp, which will take place at Sports Traders Diamond at Royal Athletic Park.

The HarbourCats thank the Greater Victoria Baseball Association for their sponsorship of the clinics. The two-day camp is open to all local baseball or softball players, and is part of the Blue Jays' national camp series. It is the only stop on Vancouver Island this summer.

Coaches BBQ - Saturday June 21st 6:30ish?

We are coming to the end of another fabulous season at Layritz Little League.  I want to thank each every Manager and Coach for stepping up and volunteering to coach a team in the park – your efforts are noticed and appreciated!

To further show our appreciation the board will host a Coach’s BBQ on Saturday, June 20th at ~6:30pm at the Park Clubhouse.
There will also be the opportunity to show off all your ball skills as the coaches play a game or two of their own.

Please feel free to bring a +1 (no kids or pets) and know that the park will be providing food and ask that people bring dessert (or other) items to be shared.

I look forward to seeing you all there as we celebrate the end of the 2015 regular season and show our appreciation for all the hard work and dedication of all our coaches!

Cheers!  Jenna Hiser / President Layritz LL

Little League Parent Connection NewsLetter - April 2015

http://www.littleleague.org/learn/newsletters/ParentConnection/2015/tpcapril/laundry-tips.htm

Laundry Tips:  I was a Little League® mom for nine years. It was so much fun experiencing each new season and watching my son grow as both a player and a person. Every season is different but regardless of the triumphs, losses, and nightly practices, one thing remained constant throughout those nine years: there was a mountain of baseball laundry waiting for me at the end of every week! His clothes were COVERED with stains of all kinds: grass on the knees, baseball clay all along the pant legs, and even some food stains from when the team went out for some celebratory pizza. I felt like I spent just as much time cheering on my son on the field as I spent in the laundry room making sure his diving-catch-stains came out of his uniform! As a proud member of all® and even prouder part of the Little League family, I feel well equipped to let you in on all the laundry room secrets I’ve acquired over the years both at home and work: ....

The 2015 Season is underway! Thank you!

The 2015 season is now underway.

We'd like to thank all those that put in countless hours behind the scenes doing everything from registering players, depositing those checks, organizing divisions, training umpires, training coaches, trimming the grass, building pitching mounds, hauling in bags of lime, emailing parents, sizing uniforms, ordering tshirts and hats, cleaning up and ordering equpiment from multi-size baseballs and softballs to catcher throat protectors and new bats, maintaining the batting cage, scheduling in-house and interlock games, making sure umpires are there for those games, having fresh oil for the deep fryers (plus getting all those candy bags ready!), getting fancy new sponsorship signs made up, finding new sponsors and keeping contact with old ones, making sure the aging slushie machine is ready for a full season ahead, and picking up extra buns for the concession!
(This list could go on for miles as you can well see!)

Remember, Little League is run on volunteerism.  So, if you have the urge to be a part of our great community, give us a shout and help out at volunteers@layritz.ca.  And even if you are feeling unsure about how you can contribute, we've got a lot of great people willing to help show you the ropes.

2015 Photo Submissions
We're looking for PHOTOS you'd like to share of the 2015 Season. Please submit them as an email attachment (~200KB per photo is the quality we're looking for) to Photos@Layritz.ca and check the Photo tab to see them posted later.

Submitting Game Scores (Where Applicable)

Submitting Game Scores - Divisions that keep track of game scores, please submit them via email to scores@layritz.ca including division, team names, game dates, scores and game winner; we're working on a system that will template this all in for you from the game schedule, but for now you'll have to provide that for us.  Thanks!

Note: auto-calculated standings are not official. (Little League Ruling) - W/L/T, Head-to-Head, Runs For/Against Ratio.

Why are we so picky about catchment?

Every year people get tired of being asked if they are in catchment or not and, at times, being asked to prove that they are.  It may seem like a silly small thing but it is a rule that Little League takes very seriously.  In fact, on February 11, 2015, the Little League community was stunned as it was announced that Jackie Robinson West Little League of Chicago, Illinois was being stripped of all international tournament titles won in 2014, including the Little League World Series Championship.

After a lengthy investigation, Little League International determined that the team has used a falsified boundary map to include players on the team that did not reside within the regular boundary.  The adults complicit in this were suspended and while the players are without fault they are the ones who will suffer the most.

Yes, Layritz Little League offers Softball for girls aged 8 - 18.  Softball divisions are Minors (8-10), Majors (11-12), Juniors (13-14), Seniors (13-16) and Big League (14-18).

During the season we create balanced teams of new and experienced players and work on skills, game play and having fun.  We also provide an opportunity to participate in a more competitive environment with the possibility of travel on a post season Tournament Team.

This year all Softball players living or attending school within the Layritz, Central Saanich or Lakehill Little League Catchment are eligible to register and play at Layritz Little League. (if you do not live in these catchments both Hampton and Beacon Hill Little League also offer softball programs!)

*Please note - if you attend the Lambrick Park Softball Academy and it is not your home catchment school this school cannot be used to define where you play for Little League purposes.

Also, we welcome players who wish to play on both a Little League team and a local Softball BC team.

FINAL WEEKEND!

The registration dates and times for the 2015 season have been set by Little League Canada.
They are January 31st-February 1 (Sat/Sun), and February 7-8 (Sat/Sun) from 1-4pm on all four days.
Registration is held at each catchment's clubhouse.

There are changes to "calendar year" for baseball age determination (like softball has been for years)
Players born anytime in 2005 or before will continue using the historical age bracket chart.
  -- see http://www.littleleaguetoolkit.org/technology/age-change-support.htm

NOTE: The flyer in the Saanich News INCORRECTLY identifies Jan 30 & 31, and Feb 6 & 7 as registration dates.
Jan 31, Feb 1, Feb 7, Feb 8 are the correct dates.

Important Registration Information

Our shipment of chocolates for fundraising has been delayed by the manufacturer.  In order to reserve your chocolates, please pay for them at registration and we will determine an alternate pick up date once they are delivered (expected Wednesday February 4, 2015).

If you do not live in our catchment and wish to register your child at Layritz Little League please review the following to determine eligibility (eligibility rules apply to all levels of Little League play from Tee Ball up):

1)  You have previously lived in our catchment and have completed a Form II(d) ( Form II(d) )to ensure continuing service with our league;

2)  Your child is currently enrolled in a school that is in the Layritz Catchment and you have completed a Little League School Enrollment Form (School Form)and had it signed by either the school Vice Principal or Principal;

3) Softball Only – for the 2015 Season minor – junior softball players who live or attend school in either the Central Saanich or Lakehill Catchments will play Little League Softball out of Layritz Park (if you attend Lambrick Park Softball Academy and it is not your home school you cannot use the Little League School Enrollment Form).  If you have previously played out of another park (ie Lakehill players at Hampton) this will not be allowed for the 2015 season – there is no waiver in this instance as the decision was made by the International Charter Committee.  Girls are eligible to play both Little League Softball and Softball BC programs and Layritz makes every effort to schedule in a manner to allow for this. Senior and Big League Softball will remain District Programs.

Please review the payment details carefully as you may be required to provide more than 1 post-dated cheque per child depending on the level of play. Registration Page

Also, please familiarize yourself with our new refund policy, Refund Policy

Please consider volunteering as a team manager, coach or umpire – we rely on our fantastic volunteers to provide the quality programming that Layritz Little League has become known for.  You do not have to be an expert in the game, just willing to learn and a desire to help out.  Feel free to ask any of our board members if you have any questions about volunteering.
