IMPORTANT AGM INFO
Dear Layritz Families and Friends,
As the AGM draws year I want to take a moment to share with you why your attendance is important and some of the ideas we hope to implement for the 2018 season - our 60th Little League season!
AGM
The AGM is a time to come together as a community to review the successes of the past season and look to future projects, review the league’s financial standing and elect board members. Every year our League is able to apply for a Community Gaming Grant from the Province of British Columbia and in order to remain eligible for these funds (an average of around $25,000.00/year) we require your attendance at our AGM. This year, as an added bonus, we will be holding a draw for attendees to win one of 3, $100 Thriftys Smile Cards!
The AGM will be held November 19th, 6:30pm in the Cedar Room at Saanich Commonwealth Place.
Election and Volunteering
This year, in an attempt to streamline the meeting, we have asked for those interested to please email their willingness to put their name forward for a position on the board and we will not be taking nominations from the floor. This is not, however, your last chance to volunteer. If you haven’t quite decided or do not feel comfortable putting your name forward before the AGM we will be having a board meeting within two weeks where those interested in any of the remaining open positions can attend and discuss - the executive is able to vote at that time should anyone wish to fill one of the empty roles. Please consider stepping into a manager/coordinator role or even sharing the role with another - if we don’t have enough volunteers we cannot offer all the divisions we would like to. The deadline for submitting your name for consideration at the AGM has been extended to Friday November 17, 2017. Please email your name and position you would like to put your name forward for to president1@layritz.ca .
Along with board positions we are looking for a group of volunteers to step up to help coordinate our opening and closing ceremonies as well as our fun day. With 2018 being our 60th year we would like to plan some fun events for our community and require some help and input. Some ideas are bouncy castles, games, dunk tank, a movie night in the park, a family picnic and games day…
2018
Currently in the works for 2018 is a reworking of our Teeball program with the hopes of expanding it to eventually include mini-minors. It will be a structured program that provides an introduction and path for development in the sport for both new players and new coaches alike. The goal is to create consistent skill development so all players entering either minor softball or minor baseball will have a solid foundation be ready for this new level of competition. We are also working on creating a line of merchandise to be made available to parents and fans as well as creating a 60th anniversary line of t-shirts and hoodies. Finally, we are hoping to be able to finally offer interac at both our registration events and in our concession.
As always, we plan to continue to work to provide excellent programming for all our players from ages 3-16 and look forward to building our community.
If you have any questions about a specific board position please feel free to email any of our board members.
On behalf of the board I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this and hope to see you at the AGM.
Warm regards,
Jenna Hiser
President, Layritz Little League
2018 Coaching Applications Online now
A big thank you to all our 2017 Managers, Coaches, Assistants and Volunteers for a job well done!
Fall Ball is now officially over and we are tidying up the end of our 2017 season with plans beginning to form for 2018. All volunteer positions with Little League (excluding executive) are a 1 year commitment and then we start the process all over again. This year we will be moving a number of our forms online in an effort to streamline what we do and make it easier for our families and volunteers alike. As we are now transitioning into planning for 2018 it is time for those who wish to volunteer as Managers, Coaches or Field Assistants for the 2018 Season to complete their application. The general deadline is February 15, 2018 however, if you wish to be involved in the pre-season clinic and indoor training with our minor divisions and up it is important to complete the application as soon as you are able.
The application should take between 2-5 minutes to complete.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on the field!
As the 2017 season has come to a close and we prepare for our AGM and the start of the 2018 season a lot of questions have been brought forward from both inside and outside the park regarding 2020 as well as a lot of speculation and mistruths as to how the team will be formed. Please review the following attachment for an update of all the information we have at this time as well as how we will be proceeding with respect to training and skill development opportunities.
AGM - Sunday, November 19th, 6:30-8:00pm in the Cedars Room at Commonwealth Place
The Layritz Little Leagueis holding their Annual General Meeting on Sunday, November 19th, at 6:30-8:00pm in the Cedars Room of Commonwealth Place (upstairs - typically it had been in the Arbutus room, but that room was not available that date) - Saanich Commonwealth Place - 4636 Elk Lake Drive
Please make time in your schedules to attend, as this affects our ability to qualify for the Provincial Gaming grants that help fund our programs and keeps all our costs down. Considering the countless hours our Board and Coaches give this program, please give this important one hour (or slightly more) of your time to help everyone involved. .
FREE Softball Clinics
Layritz will be offering FREE Softball Clinics Sundays from 10-11am beginning September 24th, weather permitting.
The clinics are open to all little league softball players in Victoria and will be run by Coaches and Players from the U19 Devils - most of whom have been and continue to be involved in Little League. If you are interested in participating please make sure to pre-register HERE
Players will need to bring a glove, helmet and bat if they own their own. Appropriate athletic wear - no open toe shoes, shorts or jeans. Please wear layers as the weather may change and please bring a full water bottle.
Layritz Little League AGM
Our AGM will be held November 19, 2017 at 6:30pm in the Cedar Room at Saanich Commonwealth Place.
The main purpose of the AGM is to allow our community members to come together and vote for the Layritz Executive and Director positions as well as have a brief review of the 2017 season and financial statements. The meeting usually takes between 30-60 minutes and is a vital first step in beginning the planning for our 2018 season. Attendance at the AGM is also required for our program to make gaming grant applications for support through the Province of BC grant programs. Monies received from the Province are vital to our ability to keep our costs to families low while being able to ensure the upkeep of fields, buildings, lighting and all equipment and uniforms.
All details can be found HERE. - please note that there is a new process for putting your name forward for election to the board, please check the link for all details as a timeline in involved.
We hope to see you there!
