YOUR Help is Needed....

Having lost our long-standing President and friend, Jenna Hiser, back in May, we clearly have some VERY big shoes to try and fill at our November 18 AGM.

Please seriously consider stepping up to help out as a member of our Board of Directors.

As many of our board members either no longer have kids playing in the park or, alternatively, have children who are close to graduating from Little League, it is very important that we start to mentor new board members to take over these roles. It is a great time to jump in and get involved as there is a ton of support still available on the existing board to help show the ropes!

The executive positions that are up for nomination this year are:

President - 1 year left on 3 year term

Executive Officer/Past President - 2 year term

VP of Softball - 2 year term

VP of Facilities - 2 year term

Registrar - 1 year left on 2 year term

Player Agent - Baseball - 2 year term

Player Agent - Softball - NEW POSITION - 2 year term

As well, the following one year positions are also up for election:

Director of Mini Minors

Director of T-Ball

Director of Minor Baseball

Director of Minor Softball

Director of Jr/Sr Softball

Scheduler (Games)

Equipment Director

Sponsorship Director

Safety Officer

Umpire in Chief

Volunteer Coordinator

Media and Communications Director

Concession Director

Uniform Director

Director of Grounds and Maintenance

If you interested in any of the foregoing positions please email shannon.nakatsu@gmail.com

Remember....no experience is required… all that we need is for you to care about our program and creating a positive experience for all involved.

FALL BASEBALL IS BACK!!!

UPDATE

THE OLDER/MORE EXPERIENCED MAJOR FALL BALL DIVISION IS NOW FULL AND REGISTRATION IS CLOSED.

THE LESS EXPERIENCED MAJOR FALL BALL DIVISION CONTINUES TO BE OPEN FOR REGISTRATION BUT WILL NEED MORE PLAYERS AS WELL AS COACHES IN ORDER TO PROCEED SO PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!!

**********************************************************************************************************************************************************

2018 FALL BASEBALL IS READY TO GO...

The off-season is almost over and it's time to get ready to get back on the field!!

The cost is $50 per player and the season will start either the week before or the week following  the Labour Day long weekend...the season’s conclusion will be determined by Mother Nature as well as the District of Saanich.

Kids who will be playing minors baseball in 2019 will register for MINORS  Fall Baseball and will have one practice and one game versus other District 7 parks each week. Registration will take place for this division at the first practice which will take place from 3-5 pm on Saturday, August 25 on the major baseball diamond.

The MAJORS Fall Baseball program has changed in that there will be TWO different divisions/options within Majors.

One division will be comprised of both 2018 Minors baseball players who are wishing to play Majors during the 2019 season, as well as those less experienced Majors baseball players.  This team will practice once per week, play games against other District 7 parks and will require coaches.

The other Majors division team will be comprised of those major baseball players who believe they can be an 11/12 All-Star in 2019.  This group will focus largely on skill development with more practices/clinics each week along with weekly intrasquad games. NOW FULL

It should be noted that the 2019 11/12 All-Star team will be a difficult team on which to earn a spot - hence this change to our traditional Fall Ball program. This group will be capped at approximately 24 players.

Registration for either of the Majors division baseball options can be done by emailing Dave Potter at potsieman@hotmail.com

We need concession, field prep, scorekeeping and 50/50 sales help. 2018 Provincial 9/10 Baseball - July 14-21

Layritz has the honour of hosting the 2018 Provincial 9/10 Championships
here at our park from Saturday, July 14th to Saturday, July 21st.
Check under the TOURNAMENTS tab for full information regarding the event.

Saanich Parking Lot work - Starts July 3rd

Saanich Parks and Rec will be starting work on the

2018 Parking Lot Project

on July 3rd.

Please respect local residents and only use the
VITP parking lot off Markham during this time.

2018 Closing Ceremonies - Sat June 16th ~1:15pm
It's almost time to "wave" goodbye to the end of the 2018 regular season.

Closing Ceremonies are scheduled for
Saturday, June 16th starting at approximately 1:15pm (be there 1:00pm)
(after both championship Major Baseball and Softball games are complete).

Parking typically is at a premium this day so remember to use common sense and do not block others in, drive slowly to avoid children in the lot, and consider using Vancouver Island Tech Parking Lot (free) off Markham Road to avoid frustration.

Save the Date...for a Very Special Lady...

Layritz Little League will be hosting a celebration in honour and remembrance of our dear friend and park President, Jenna Hiser, at 1pm on Sunday, June 24.

Refreshments will be served and both adults and kids alike are encouraged to bring your gloves and enjoy a “sandlot” game at the softball diamond on which Jenna enjoyed watching her daughter grow up playing.

Although Jenna wasn’t able to physically be at the park in recent years due to her health issues, never doubt the countless hours this amazing lady gave to our program and its players...

Sad News for Layritz Little League
It is with great sadness that the Baard of Directors of Layritz Little League advises that our long standing President, Jenna Hiser, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018.  Jenna's immeasurable dedication to Little League, our park and, in particular, to our softball program, will serve as a longstanding legacy to Layritz Little League.

Jenna, you will be missed....

IMPORTANT Parking Information for Opening Ceremonies

Out of respect for all our neighbours please drive slowly and cautiously through the neighbourhood approaching the park and do not park in the Resident Only parking on any of the surrounding streets.  We strongly support carpooling, walking and riding bikes to the park!

There is VERY limited parking in the Layritz lot however there is ample FREE parking available at the VI Tech Park lot located on the back side of the park off of Markham Rd - it is nearly equal walking distance to the fields.

Lets keep the park safe and the parking sane!

Please familiarize yourself with the following maps: the first identifies the location of both parking lots and the second clarifies the NO PARKING zones in the Layritz Lot.

PHOTOGRAPHER NEEDED!!
